Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk (Dordrecht)
The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk ( German Liebfrauenkirche ), also Grote Kerk , is the largest church in the Dutch city of Dordrecht and a work of brick Gothic .
history
The Liebfrauenkirche had a Romanesque predecessor, which has been archaeologically proven. The oldest part of today's church is the Marienchor located north of the main choir, which was built from 1285. The decisive factor for the large new building in the Brabant Gothic style was possibly the elevation of the church to a collegiate church in 1367. In 1457 the church under construction was badly damaged by fire; In 1470 it had reached its present form. The tower of the church was left unfinished. In 1572 the church came into Protestant hands. It was last thoroughly restored between 1982 and 1987.
Furnishing
The oak choir stalls, the Jan Artsz, deserve special attention . Terwen 1538-1541 in the Renaissance style. The reliefs show scenes from biblical history but also a triumphal procession of Emperor Charles V.
organ
The organ was built in 1859 by the organ builder Kam. The instrument has 51 stops on three manuals and a pedal . The actions are mechanical.
