Opéra de Montréal
The Opéra de Montréal is an opera company based in the Canadian city of Montreal . Most of the performances take place in the Place des Arts cultural center .
The opera company was founded in 1980 by the Ministry of Culture of the Province of Québec . It replaced the Opéra du Québec , which existed from 1971 to 1975. The Opéra de Montréal has set itself the goal of promoting young singers, conductors, directors and stage designers from Québec in particular, as well as introducing singers in training to a larger audience. A special feature are short appearances in metro stations . The Orchester symphonique de Montréal and the Orchester Métropolitain alternate as the house orchestra .
