history

The neighboring districts of Grätz and Neutomischel were crossed by the Posen – Frankfurt (Oder) line of the former Märkisch-Posen Railway Company , which was nationalized in 1883 . From the train station in the small town of Opalenitza / Oppenbach, a branch line branched off to the district town in 1881, and from there it was extended in three directions from 1901 to 1909.

But in the area north of the state railway there was only one freight railway for the transport of sugar beet at the end of the 19th century, that from Opalenitza from October 23, 1886 to Trzcionka / Trankdorf / Neu Rochlitz (10.7 km) and from November 9, 1889 a further 6.6 kilometers to Brody / Pflugfelde. In order to improve traffic conditions, the two districts founded the Opalenitzaer Kleinbahnen GmbH on January 14, 1896, together with what was then the largest German sugar factory in Opalenitza. This company upgraded the beet railway and extended it from Brody to Neustadt bei Pinne / Kirschneustadt to 24.8 kilometers from February 5, 1896.

From Trzcionka, which later became the junction of the small railway network, a 17.9 kilometer stretch branched off, which reached Wonsowo / Hardtshufen on August 17, 1896 and the district town of Neutomischel on December 6, 1898 . With the section Trzcionka - Duschnik Kaisershof (9.8 km), the basic network of 52.5 kilometers in length with a gauge of 750 mm was completed on June 8, 1905; In addition to freight trains, four to five pairs of passenger trains also ran on it every day.

Over the years, more than 25 kilometers of freight railways were added. In 1914, the vehicle fleet comprised a total of ten locomotives, ten passenger and four pack / mail wagons as well as 227 freight and six special wagons.

Passenger traffic was discontinued in the 1990s and the routes closed.
