Opavia-LU, sro is a Czech manufacturer of sweets with headquarters in Prague and the main factory in Opava . The company has been owned by Mondelēz International since 2007 . The internationally best known product are the Marienbad wafers .

history

The company was founded in 1840 by Theodor Fiedor as Theodor Fiedor spol. sro founded. Together with his wife Amalie, he baked waffles with waffle irons on fire and then sold them. It was not until 1880 that their son Theodor started industrial production. From then on, the waffles were made in ovens by bakers. Theodor Fiedor's premature death due to kidney failure endangered the family property, but his wife Maria continued to run the company and increased production capacity .

After the Second World War, the state enterprise Čokoládovny np was established in 1947 , which was converted into the joint stock company Čokoládovny, as in 1991 .

In 1992 the Czech government approved the privatization of the company. During this time, Danone and Nestlé's Copart joint venture received 43% of the shares. Gradually, Copart became the main shareholder with 90% and thus the owner of Opavia.

At the beginning of 1999 the company had economic success again and thus escaped the recession.

In July 2007 Danone announced that it would be selling the company to Kraft Foods. In November, the group announced that the sale had been successful.
