OpenGIS Location Service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The OpenGIS Location Services (short OpenLS or OLS ) is an OpenGIS specification for a Location Based Service (Engl. For location-related services ). OpenLS provides the end devices of mobile users ( cell phones , PDA ) with location-based services, e.g. B. Route descriptions .

Interoperability plays an important role. The OpenLS specification is supposed to guarantee the smooth cooperation of the individual network services through standardized interfaces . The OpenLS specification is a description of these network services using abstract data types (ADT), which an OpenLS-compliant network service delivers as a result of a request and which are used for communication within the services. The network services are referred to as core services . Core Services and ADTs together describe the GeoMobility Server , the OpenLS platform.

The specification is to be seen as a blueprint for OpenLS-compliant network services. The content is a detailed technical description of the interfaces. The implementation of the network service that offers these interfaces is the responsibility of the software manufacturer.
