OpenSync is free software for synchronizing addresses, calendar entries and other data between different devices such as computers, PDAs or cell phones .

It is natively available for Linux, but unofficially also for Mac OS X and Windows. However, the current versions for the latter two still have to be compiled by the user.

The program has a modular structure and is plug-in- based. The synchronization between two units A and B takes place via the plugins responsible for A and B. A and B can be devices as well as programs. As soon as a record of one party changes, this change is replicated to the other party. It is also possible to synchronize only in one direction or automatically, if z. B. a device is within range. The plug-in concept allows the program to be easily adapted to new devices or programs, because only a new plug-in has to be created, while the synchronization logic always remains the same.

Since April 22, 2006, the project has become the official successor to Multisync .
