Open Hub (formerly Ohloh ) is an online service for cataloging of open source -Softwareprojekten. Basic data such as project name, homepage, brief description, license and repository are recorded . Based on this data, Open Hub creates statistics on the project, which companies can support in deciding whether to purchase free software.

Open Hub creates the following statistics :

  • Overview (including maturity of the code, comments in the code, development team size, historical development of the contributions)
  • Code analysis ( programming languages ​​used , lines of code and comments, historical development of the code)
  • Project employees (number of commits per employee, historical development)
  • Publications (the last commits including comments)

In addition to the project statistics, there are also statistics for people and organizations who contribute to the software projects.

Similar projects, but with different objectives, are SourceForge and Freshmeat .

history

Open Hub was founded in 2004 under the name Ohloh by the two managers Jason Allen and Scott Collison formerly employed by Microsoft in Bellevue , Washington . The developer Robin Luckey is also involved.

On 28 May 2009 it was announced that Ohloh of SourceForge was acquired.

On September 30, 2010, Black Duck Software bought the site from Geeknet (the company behind SourceForge).

On July 15, 2014, the renaming to Black Duck Open Hub was announced and completed shortly afterwards.

The portal has grown enormously in the past. In December 2007 it still comprised 99,977 people with 9,824 projects in 32 programming languages ​​and 58 documented open source licenses . In October 2009 there were already 399,334 people with 413,261 projects in 77 programming languages ​​and 253 open source licenses.
