Opera St. Moritz
The St. Moritz Opera (formerly Engadin Opera Festival ) is an annual summer opera production near St. Moritz in the Upper Engadin , Switzerland .
Opera St. Moritz plays in the grand hotels around St. Moritz, which were built during the Belle Époque and, thanks to their palace architecture, offer space for opera performances. The visitors sit in the immediate vicinity of the stage, as there is no separation by an orchestra pit. The international soloists and musicians are supported by local choirs.
In 2009 the opera Il barbiere di Siviglia by the composer Gioacchino Rossini was performed. In 2010 the festival staged the continuation of this comic opera: Le nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . In the summer of 2011, Opera St. Moritz performed the lyrical tragedy Anna Bolena by Gaetano Donizetti at the Hotel Waldhaus in Sils in the Engadin / Segl , in which Christoph Marthaler staged a play in 2008 .
Martin Grossmann is the artistic director and president . He also founded and directs the annual Opera Basel ( Switzerland ), which is performed in the Volkshaus Basel.
