Hermann Döring (born January 30, 1888 in Berlin ; † September 13, 1945 in special camp No. 7 Sachsenhausen ) was a German lawyer, legal scholar and pioneer of aviation insurance.

Life

Döring came from Berlin to study law in Munich around 1907 and became a member of the Corps Isaria . In 1908 he changed his place of study and went to Göttingen, where he also joined the Corps Hannovera . At the Berlin University he completed his studies with a doctorate to become Dr. iur. from. After the First World War, he made a name for himself in 1921 with his award-winning work on insurance and air transport in what was then the growth industry. In 1924 he worked for Aero Lloyd Aktiengesellschaft in Berlin, which in 1928 became a Lufthansa Group company as Deutsche Luftversicherungs AG . Döring also became the syndic of Lufthansa, but remained on the board of Deutsche Luftversicherung until 1944. In the 1930s, other aviation-related insurers such as the pension fund for the German aviation VVaG and the aviation pension association were established in his environment as a company pension scheme for the employees of the Lufthansa Group. As of 1944, the business operations of Deutsche Luftversicherung were brought to a standstill in the course of the impending liquidation of Lufthansa. In contrast to the parent company Lufthansa, the insurance subsidiary did not go into liquidation. Her board member Hermann Döring died in September 1945 as a prisoner in special camp No. 7 Sachsenhausen , which was taken over in summer 1945 by the Soviet military administration (SMAD) in the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ) on the site of the Nazi concentration camp Sachsenhausen , taking over prisoners from the special camp Weesow had been established.

Deutsche Luftversicherung AG soon resumed its advertising activities after the Second World War and in 1954 relocated its headquarters from Berlin to Cologne. It was also renamed Delvag Luftfahrtversicherungs-AG . Today Delvag is a large aviation insurer in the Lufthansa Group . In its corporate history, it honors Döring's pioneering development work.
