Operación Triunfo

Operación Triunfo is a Spanish television format developed by John de Mol .

It was started in 2001 by the Spanish television channel TVE1 - the first in the world - as a mixture of casting show and Big Brother . Initially with the aim of finding the Spanish representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 , the show quickly developed into a success. In the following years, other seasons followed, but they could no longer fully build on the success of the first season.

First season 2001/02

The first season started on October 29, 2001. On February 11, 2002 the winner was determined: Rosa. A week later, all candidates stood together again in a special gala from Eurodisney Paris. In the following three weeks, the Spanish audience was able to choose the Spanish participant for the Eurovision Song Contest by telephone between the three finalists Rosa, David Bisbal and David Bustamante as well as three songs per candidate. Here too, Rosa won with the title “Europe's living a celebration”. At the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 she was supported by David Bisbal and David Bustamante as background singers.
