Operation ASHA

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Operation ASHA (short for OpASHA ) is an international non-profit organization that was founded in 2005 to provide treatment for tuberculosis in low-wage areas . The main work of the New Delhi- based organization is to cure tuberculosis and prevent multidrug-resistant forms of tuberculosis in India and Cambodia .

In 2010, through the collaboration of Operation ASHA and Microsoft Research , the program eCompliance a developed biometric examination method for the observation of tuberculosis ill patients.

Social model

Operation ASHA was founded by Shelly Batra and Sandeep Ahuja. In India, Operation ASHA works according to the Indian Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program ("Improved National Tuberculosis Control Program ") as a private provider of a Directly Observed Treatment-Shortcourse ( DOTS , "Directly monitored short-term therapy"). The organization recruits common community members from the local area and trains them to become tuberculosis-specialist health officers. Operation ASHA is also building DOTS centers in existing and generally accessible locations such as B. temples, shops or pharmacies.

In selected tuberculosis centers, Operation ASHA provides biometric examination devices to check whether the tuberculosis patients are adhering to their prescribed medication and whether they are keeping the agreed appointments at the centers. These terminals are equipped with fingerprint scanners and communicate with each other via SMS in order to synchronize health data with a central server.
