Darius Mažintas (* 1982 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian musician, pianist and former politician , Vice Minister of Culture.

Life

From 1988 Mažintas studied at the Čiurlionis Art School . He just wanted to play the piano. He was not interested in other musical disciplines such as the theory of sound, solfège or harmony . After 8 classes, he was removed from the art school because of regressive behavior, poor class attendance, poor learning and non-compliance with school rules. In 2000 he graduated from the Balys Dvarionas - Music School . Without obtaining a university entrance qualification and with the falsified school leaving certificate from a Russian “Santaros” secondary school , he completed his bachelor's and master's degree in 2001 and was an aspirant at the Lietuvos muzikos ir teatro akademija (LMTA) with Veronika Vitaitė . From 2005 to 2006 he continued his education at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory in Como , Italy . From September 2012 to autumn 2014 he taught as a lecturer at the piano chair of the LMTA music faculty.

As a pianist he played in the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Russia , Sweden , the Netherlands . From 2010 to 2011 he played in Concertgebouw (Amsterdam). He played with the musician U.Sabaitytė-Mažintienė in the Berlin Philharmonic , Carnegie Hall (New York), Wigmore Hall (London). Mažintas played with the Chamber Orchestra of Lithuania , Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and had concerts with the opera soloists as Virgilijus Noreika and Sandra Janušaitė. He won competitions such as “Konzertum” in Greece (1998), “Citta di Senigalia” in Italy (1996), “Virtuosi per musica di pianoforte” in the Czech Republic (1995), “Pietra Ligure” in Italy (1997). As a pianist he has received several awards abroad. He also received the Young Artist Prize from the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture .

politics

From March 2013 to September 19, 2014 he was Lithuanian vice minister of culture (instead of Faustas Latėnas ), deputy of Šarūnas Birutis in the Butkevičius cabinet . Mažintas resigned because of allegations about the collision of private interests at the office and falsification of diplomas.

According to the Lithuanian Criminal Code , forgery and the use of the document could be classified as a minor willful crime . Since the forged document was presented to the LMTA admissions committee several years ago (2001) , Mažintas may not be convicted of a minor deliberate crime after five years . In this case, the statute of limitations was 2006. So no preliminary investigation was initiated. In view of the fact that a person without a certificate of secondary education has no right to study in the institution of higher education , Ramutis Jancevičius, chief prosecutor of the Vilnius District Prosecutor, asked the prosecutor to take action on the defense of a public interest . After the school leaving certificate affair, all degrees were revoked and he was dismissed from the academy. He was then obliged to cover the costs of the three courses completed and to repay the state scholarships (around 9,000 euros).

Mažintas has been a member of LSDP since March 2013 .
