Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra

The Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra (lit. Klaipėdos kamerinis orkestras ) is a chamber orchestra founded in 1992 in the port city of Klaipėda , the third largest city in Lithuania . Cellist Mindaugas Bačkus has been the director since June 2009 .

history

The initiator and longstanding art director of the orchestra was violist Liuda Kuraitienė . In December 1992 the first concert took place in the hall of the Faculty of Arts of the Klaipėdos universitetas . The first conductor was Dmitrij Zlotnik . The chamber orchestra belonged to the Klaipėda Township Music Center. Today it is a musical group from Klaipėdos koncertų salė . Later conductors were Saulius Sondeckis , Robertas Šervenikas , Modestas Pitrėnas , Donatas Katkus , Martynas Staškus , Vytautas Lukočius .

The orchestra had over 400 concerts in Lithuania and abroad: Latvia , Kaliningrad ( Russia ), Poland , Germany and Ukraine . It has participated in festivals such as Klaipėdos muzikos pavasaris , Permainų muzika , Salve Musica Alternatyva , Pax Et Bonum , Resurrexit , Summer Festival Tytuvėnai , Festival Pažaislis , Paežeriai , Užutrakis , Festival of Baltic Cities in Szczecin and Sacred Music Festival Gdynia (Poland). The orchestra represented Lithuania at the Lithuanian Culture Days in Hesse .
