Saulius Sondeckis (born October 11, 1928 in Šiauliai ; † February 3, 2016 ) was a Lithuanian conductor and professor .

family

His father was Jackus Sondeckis (1893-1989), mayor of Šiauliai. His mother Rozalija Sondeckienė (1897–1952) taught at the boys' grammar school Šiauliai.

Saulius Sondeckis was married twice. In 1963 he was divorced and had the son Saulius Sondeckis junior (* 1954). He is the former director of the television channel LRT televizija entrepreneur in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius .

In 1967 Saulius Sondeckis was married to the cellist and professor Silvija Sondeckienė (* 1942). Both sons are musicians and live abroad. Vytautas Sondeckis (* 1972) is deputy solo cellist with the NDR Symphony Orchestra . Paulius Sondeckis is a violinist and lives in Austria.

education

From 1935 to 1944 Sondeckis studied at the Julius Janonis grammar school Šiauliai , from 1946 to 1947 at the middle school in Vilnius . From 1947 to 1952 he graduated from the Lithuanian Music and Theater Academy with the violinist Aleksandras Livontas . From 1952 to 1959 Sondeckis taught at the Juozas Tallat Kelpša Conservatory in Vilnius , from 1955 at the National Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Art School and from 1957 at the LSSR Conservatory. From 1957 to 1960 he graduated in distance education, the postgraduate at the Conservatory in Moscow .

In 1960, Sondeckis founded the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra in Vilnius and directed it until 2004. From 1977 he taught as a professor at the Lithuanian Conservatory and from 1959 to 1987 he headed the chair for string instruments at the Conservatory in Vilnius. From 1989 Sondeckis directed the Orchestra Camerata Saint Petersburg and from 2005 the Chamber Orchestra Kremerata Baltica . From 2004 he was guest conductor of the Moscow Virtuoso Chamber Orchestra .

Sondeckis was a member of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation and a jury member of numerous music competitions in Lithuania and abroad ( Salzburg , Moscow and Parma ). He was a conductor at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival .

In 2010 the Šiauliai Conservatory was renamed after Sondecki's name.

Other

From 2004 Sondeckis was a member of the party Lietuvos socialdemokratų partija .

His grave is in Antakalnis Cemetery , Vilnius .
