Silvija Sondeckienė

Silvija Sondeckienė (born November 17, 1942 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian cellist and professor .

Life

In 1949 her parents noticed Silvija's talents and therefore moved to Vilnius . At that time her father was deported to Vorkuta ( Siberia ) to dig coal there. He did not return to Lithuania until 1960.

In 1960 Silvija graduated from the Čiurlionis Art School in Vilnius. She then studied for two years at the Lithuanian Conservatory and played in the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra . From 1962 to 1966 she studied at the Moscow Conservatory with the cellist Mstislaw Leopoldowitsch Rostropowitsch . From 1966 to 1995 she played again with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. From 1966 taught at the Children's Music School in Vilnius, in the Juozas Tallat Kelpša Music Technology School and then for 44 years at the Lithuanian Music Academy . From 1970 to 1972 she studied in the postgraduate distance learning at the Conservatory Moscow. She taught as a professor at the Music Academy. There she prepared over 40 cellists.

Sondeckienė is a widow. Her husband was Saulius Sondeckis (1928–2016), conductor and professor. They met each other at the Čiurlionis Art School . Sondeckis, then a student, worked as the school's concertmaster and directed the school orchestra, with Silvija playing as a pupil. In 1967 she married Saulius Sondeckis when he and his first wife were divorced in 1963.

Both sons are musicians. You live abroad. Vytautas Sondeckis (* 1972) is deputy solo cellist with the NDR Symphony Orchestra . Paulius Sondeckis is a violinist and lives in Austria.
