Jackus Sondeckis

Jackus Sondeckis-Sonda (born January 15, 1893 in Šašaičiai , now Telšiai Rajongemeinde ; † October 14, 1989 in Sheremetyevo Airport , Moscow ) was a Lithuanian politician , mayor of Šiauliai .

Life

Sondeckis studied at Kaunas High School and graduated from Vilnius High School in 1914 . From 1914 to 1917 he studied science at the University of Saint Petersburg . In 1918, Sondeckis worked in the Seda District (now Mažeikiai Rajongemeinde ) and from 1918 to 1919 as the Labor Inspector of the Šiauliai District . From 1920 to 1924 he studied at the University of Halle . Sondeckis was mayor of Šiauliai from 1925 to 1931 and director of the Šiauliai health insurance company from 1931 to 1940 . From 1931 he was a member of the LSDP party . From 1941 Sondeckis headed the finance department of the municipality of Šiauliai . From 1950 he lived in Boston .

Sondeckis was married. His wife Rozalija Sondeckienė (1897–1952) taught at the boys' grammar school Šiauliai. His son Saulius Sondeckis (1928-2016) was a conductor and professor in Vilnius and an honorary citizen of Šiauliai and Mažeikiai .
