Tertiary education

The tertiary education comprises the region in the education of a state that, based on a closed secondary education , higher education mediated or to higher professional prepared positions.

The proportion of the population with a degree in tertiary education has been increasing in all parts of the world for decades. While the proportion has increased by half or doubled in the western world since 1970, it has multiplied in less developed countries. There, however, at a lower level.

Internationally, those institutions and training courses are included in the tertiary education sector that are classified by UNESCO at least at ISCED level 5. In general, universities (generic term for universities , technical universities , medical universities , teacher training colleges , music academies or art academies , dual universities and all types of universities of applied sciences ) belong to the tertiary education sector. In some countries, however, there are other types of schools in addition to the universities, which are also included in the tertiary education sector.
