Operational index

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The operational index is an evaluation method within the framework of the concept of indexed operational performance measurement . The operational index is the median or average of a key figure from comparable companies, so-called peer companies . In the indexed operational performance measurement, the operational index is compared to the company performance. In the more general usage of the word, the graphic representation itself (see below) is also referred to as the operational index.

example

The figure below shows the operational index. The operating index of the EBIT margin is shown as a blue line. In addition to the operating index of the comparable companies, the first and third quartile boundaries (boundaries of the blue shading) are also entered in the graph . The blue areas therefore show the EBIT margins of 50% of all comparative rsp. Peer company. These comparative values of the key figure to be assessed are compared with the values of the company to be assessed in an indexed manner; the points in the figure are shown as orange with a line.

Bonus targets based on the operational index

Bonus targets can be indexed using the operational index in order to reduce external influences in the performance measurement (see performance-based compensation ). An example of indexed bonus targets is the bonus index, which is published annually by the Zurich financial research company Obermatt, the operational index for German HDAX companies and Swiss SMI and SPI companies.
