location

The stones are located about 250 meters southwest of the heavily worn Sunderburg in a hollow in the high forest between Schöngeising and Grafrath .

Description and history

The two almost parallel, slightly reddish stones with cross-furrows running through each other are weathered limestone and sandstones . It is very likely that they were brought in during the worm ice age and exposed in the 19th century in search of limestone. The stones originally come from the Central Alps. They were discovered around 1880.

They are sometimes popularly referred to as "blood stones".

Mystification

The legend that Celtic peoples used the erratic boulders as a ritual sacrificial site has been around since the 19th century. However, such usage has not been verified and historically is considered very unlikely.

Because of their mystification, the stones are a meeting point for esotericists , occultists and satanists . Associated rituals were observed there and have already resulted in police measures.
