The Oppegaard Spur is a narrow and 3 km long mountain ridge in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It extends immediately east of the mouth of the Kosco Glacier into the Ross Ice Shelf from the southwestern part of Mount Speed in a northwestern direction.
The discovery and first aerial photographs go back to scientists of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1962 after cadet Richard D. Oppegaard, a member of the support units of the United States Navy in Antarctica , who died on November 8, 1957 in an accident on board his mission ship.
