Mount Speed is an almost circular, hill-shaped mountain in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . It rises with several peaks of a maximum height of 1,100 m on the southern edge of the Ross Ice Shelf on the west side of the mouth of the Shackleton Glacier .
He was discovered by participants in the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The American geophysicist Albert P. Crary (1911-1997) carried out a survey between 1957 and 1958 and named it after Lieutenant Harvey Guy Speed (1920-1977) of the VX-6 squadron of the United States Navy , who served in 1957 on the Station Little America V overwintered.
