Brody is a village with a Schulzenamt in the municipality of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska in the Powiat Wadowicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland .
geography
The place is located on the Skawinka River (locally known as Cedron ).
The neighboring towns are the town of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska and Bugaj in the west, Zebrzydowice and Zarzyce Wielkie in the north, Izdebnik and the town of Lanckorona in the east.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1385 as Brodi . Later it was also mentioned as Brodowo and Brodow . The name brody means fords .
At that time the village belonged to the so-called Radwanite Corridor . This belonged to Poland and connected the Duchy of Auschwitz , the feudal rule of the Kingdom of Bohemia , in the west with its exclave in the east.
During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Brody became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).
In 1918 after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Brody came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the General Government .
In 1950, most of the village of Brody on the left bank of the Skawinka River was incorporated into the town of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska.
From 1975 to 1998 Brody was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
