The Sherbatskiy was a ferry that entered service in 1980 as the Pride of Free Enterprise for the British shipping company Townsend Thoresen . It stayed in service until 2015 and was then scrapped in India .
history
The Pride of Free Enterprise was the last of three sister ships to be built at Schichau Unterweser in Bremerhaven and launched on May 31, 1980. On November 23, 1980, the ship was put into service on the route from Dover to Calais . It was previously at the Pool of London from November 17th to 20th , where it was the newest unit to be seen by Townsend Thoresen.
In December 1987, after the dissolution of Townsend Thoresen , the Pride of Free Enterprise became the property of P&O European Ferries , who renamed it Pride of Bruges . The line from Dover to Zeebrugge became a new area of operation . From November 1991 Calais became the ship's destination port. In October 1996 it was briefly used again from Dover to Zeebrugge.
In March 1998 the Pride of Bruges went to the P&O Stena Line under the new name P&O SL Picardy , in order to be used from Dover to Calais and Zeebrugge. In February 2000 the ship was decommissioned and offered for sale.
The new owner in April 2001 was the Belgian shipping company Transeuropa Ferries , which started using it from July 2002 under the new name Oleander between Ostend and Ramsgate .
In June 2010 the Moroccan ferry company Comarit chartered the ship for use between Almería and Nador . After working for Comarit, the Oleander was chartered out again in May 2012 and used by Trasmediterránea on the same route as for Comarit. In May 2013 Novgorod Shipping Ltd took over the ship from Comarit and renamed it Sherbatskiy . The charter contract with Acciona Trasmediterránea remained in place.
The Acciona charter expired in October 2015. To be chartered held again, the ship sailed to the port of Valletta , where it on 1 November launched was. In December 2015 the Sherbatskiy was renamed Sher and sold to India for scrapping. On December 11th, after 35 years of service, the ship arrived in Alang , where it was dismantled in the following months.
Sister ships
The Sherbatskiy was the last of the three sister ships of the Spirit class that still existed : The Herald of Free Enterprise capsized off Zeebrugge in 1987 and the Anthi Marina was scrapped in Turkey in 2012 .
