The 2D2 9100 are French electric locomotives for use on the 1500 V direct current network , 35 of which were built from 1950 by the companies Fives-Lille and CEM for the SNCF.

history

Development of the 2D2 9100 began immediately after the Second World War together with the BB 8100 . 35 locomotives were built according to the plans of the 2D2 locomotives built before the war with some improvements. They were used on the newly electrified Paris - Lyon line until the CC 7100 were available. The first locomotive was put into service on March 2, 1950, the last on July 31, 1951.

technology

The 2D2 9100 have an output of 3687 kW. The four drive axles are provided with a Buchli drive on both sides , which is designed for a top speed of 140 km / h. The locomotives were designed for standing operation and only had folding seats for the drivers, which was supposed to prevent the drivers from falling asleep while driving. They were the last series of electric locomotives of the SNCF with rigid frames and wheel sets. Proven technology was used that did not cause any particular problems.

commitment

The locomotives were used on the route network southeast of Paris and, in addition to the Paris - Lyon - Marseille route, also ran the Dijon - Dole and Paris - Le Mans routes . The 2D2 9100 were located in the Laroche- Migennes , Lyon-Mouche and Villeneuve depots . The last locomotives from Lyon-Mouche were only used in freight train service in 1987 before they were scrapped. Due to their large mass of 144 t and the delicate and expensive maintenance, they retired from service.

The 2D2 9101 covered 51,657 km in a single month in March 1954, which was a world record at the time.

Preserved locomotives

  • Only one locomotive, the 2D2 9135, has survived. It is looked after by the Association Française de Conservation de Locomotives (AFCL) and has been a listed building since 1990 . The locomotive was initially housed in the Charolais depot in Paris-Bercy and is now housed in the round shed of the Ambérieu-en-Bugey depot.
  • The 2D2 9134 was scrapped at the end of April 2008 after having been in Saint-Étienne for more than 20 years .
