Oppidum giant castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The giant castle was once a Celtic oppidum on the giant head near Rohnstadt im Taunus . Former fortifications (ring walls) are still clearly visible. The giant castle is not far from the old Hessenstrasse / Hünerstrasse . Below the facility there were pending iron ore deposits , for the mining and processing of which the Celts settled and built the oppidum to protect the settlement. A road in the direction of the Rhine led along the settlement in Celtic times . This traffic connection roughly corresponded to the later "Hessenstraße".
