Opuntia howeyi is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Opuntia howeyi is hardy in Central Europe. The epithet of the species honors a Mr. Howey about whom nothing more is known.

description

Opuntia howeyi grows outstretched like a bush. The green to copper-green, shiny limbs are oval and up to 10 centimeters wide. Her with glochids occupied areoles are round and brown. The whitish, stiff thorns have a dark tip and are up to 2.5 centimeters long.

The flowers are pale yellow, the fruits red.

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia howeyi is likely to be found in Mexico . Very little is known about the species. According to Curt Backeberg , it is close to Opuntia phaeacantha .

The first description was made in 1925 by Joseph Anton Purpus .
