Oracle Certificate
The software company Oracle awards a number of certificates. In addition to the variants of the in-house products, which can usually be recognized by the designations OCA, OCP, OCM and OCE, there is further evidence from purchased products such as e-business or Siebel. The BEA certificates are no longer issued; they were adapted to the Oracle system in 2009.
Oracle often expects participation in an Oracle-approved online or classroom course as a prerequisite for awarding the title. Cross-qualifications between the profiles are also possible. The certificates are valid indefinitely, but often, at least the important ones, are tied to a software version. In this case, the title does not have to be completely reworked for the next version or the one after that, because an update is possible. With the exception of those for OCM, the exams are designed as an electronic multiple-choice test .
Certification Levels
The titles apply to one version each.
Oracle Certified Associate
The OCA is the entry level to certification.
Oracle Certified Professional
The OCA or certain certifications are a prerequisite for obtaining the certificate. Since 2002, in the case of database certification, courses at Oracle University have to be taken (so-called practical courses) and two (Oracle Database 9i) or one exam (Oracle Database 10g and 11g) to be passed. No course is required for Java certifications. The proof also serves as the basis for further specializations (e.g. Oracle RAC or Oracle under Linux). The title for the current software version can be obtained in a simplified manner through update tests if one is OCP of a previous version (at most two versions difference).
Oracle Certified Master
The highest qualification is the OCM. The entry requirement is the OCP. Oracle expects three years of practical experience for database certifications, but does not require proof. Additional requirements are two advanced courses at Oracle University and a practical exam that extends over two days and contains various practical problems. Oracle maintains a website that lists all OCMs, as far as they wish. A simplified title update should be planned, but does not exist until today (2009).
Oracle Certified Expert
The Certified Expert title certifies skills in specific technologies, architectures or areas that are not currently covered by the Certified Associate and Certified Professional lines.

- Application Server Administrator for the Oracle Application Server
Certified Expert
Almost all other certificates are called “Certified Expert” by Oracle. It is characterized by the lack of a hierarchy of advancement because the underlying amount of knowledge is too limited for multi-level or special areas are dealt with. Some titles are version-bound.
