The Oracle Application Server 10g is an application server from the company Oracle , which among other things contains an implementation of the Java EE architecture. The name correlates with version 10g of the Oracle database , a relational database system ( RDBMS ) and the best-known Oracle product. The 'g' stands for grid .
The OC4J is considered the little brother of the Oracle Application Server . The OC4J is just the JEE container without the Apache web server , high availability features or management tools that the Oracle Application Server has. In addition, the Oracle Application Server can manage several OC4J instances , so-called containers.
In addition to the Java EE server, the Oracle Application Server 10g offers various other components, such as an XSQL servlet, management and high availability solutions.
Oracle will end the support for the product at the end of 2011. The successor is the BEA WebLogic Server, which was taken over by the company BEA , now referred to as Oracle WebLogic Server 11g .
JEE compatibility
The Oracle Application Server is JEE 1.3 compatible in versions 9i (9.0.x) and the first release of version 10g (10.1.2 aka 10g R2) . From version 10.1.3 (10g R3) it is JEE 1.4 compatible.
