Orange Line (Lahore)

The Orange Line is an automated rapid transit system under construction in Lahore , Pakistan . When it goes into operation in 2019 [obsolete] , the Orange Line will be Pakistan's first metro line. The orange line is the first of the three proposed rail lines for the Lahore Metro. The route will have a length of 27.1 km. The Orange Line will serve 26 stations in Lahore. The financing is not part of the CPEC, as is often assumed, but comes entirely from the Punjab provincial government .

history

The Orange Line project was agreed through a letter of intent between the Pakistani and Chinese governments . The financing was secured in December 2015 by a loan of $ 1.55 million with the Chinese China Exim Bank . Work began in October 2016. As with the Lahore Metrobus, construction was divided into sections and subcontracted. The construction costs are Rs. 32.88 million. On January 12, 2017, 7 workers died during the construction work.

Train stations

The Orange Line will serve 26 stations. Two stations will be underground while the other 24 stations will be above ground. The above-ground stations will have a total length of 104 m and a total width of 22.5 m. The underground stations will have automated dividing doors between the track and the underground. Each station on the Orange Line will have air conditioning.

Each Orange Line runs with 5 cars, which are manufactured by the Chinese company Norinco and which go into operation without a driver. The Orange Line will have 200 seats. The Punjab Provincial Government has ordered a total of 27 such trains from Norinco for $ 1 million.

Railroad tracks

The railway tracks correspond to Chinese standards and are operated as a track circuit . The main track will support 50 kg / m. The tracks will have a standard gauge of 1435 mm.

criticism

According to critics, the construction of the Orange Line poses a threat to the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lahore. The Lahore High Court has ordered that work should cease at 60 meters from the sites . The order was lifted again. The work continued.
