Oratoire Saint-Roch

The Oratoire Saint-Roch is a Catholic oratory in Ajaccio , the capital of the island of Corsica . It belongs to the diocese of Ajaccio .

The building is located in downtown Ajaccio, on the west side of Rue Cardinal Fesch , opposite the junction of Rue Jérôme Péri , north of the old town.

Architecture and history

The oratory was built in 1599 outside the city walls of Ajaccio. It was the seat of the brotherhood of Saint-Roch and Saint-Sébastien, which looked after people who stayed outside the closed city gates at night. In the 18th century the church building was rebuilt in the Mannerist style.

The interior of the church is spanned by a vault. The high altar is decorated with Corinthian columns and stucco .

On September 6, 1985, the oratorio was registered as a Monument historique under the number PA00099069.
