Order of August 23, 1st class

The Order 23 August ( Romanian Ordinul 23 August ) was founded with Decree No. 190 on June 3, 1959 in five classes and was intended to commemorate the overthrow of the dictator Marshal Ion Antonescu on August 23, 1944 by King Mihai I of Romania .

The first awards went to people who had participated in the coup. The order was later awarded for service to the working class and the armed forces of the country.

The medal of the 1st and 2nd class is a 10-pointed star with angled stripes. The gilded medallion with the colored enameled coat of arms is surrounded by an oak leaf ring in the middle . The III. up to V class was worn on a ribbon and are in order of gold , silver and bronze .
