The Order of the Red Cross for Women and Virgins , Russian Знак отличия Красного Креста (about: Distinction of the Red Cross ) was founded on April 11, 1878 by Alexander II of Russia after the victory in the Russo-Turkish War and was an award for the women who care for the sick and the wounded. An award was made by the tsarina with the consent of the tsar.

Order classes

The medal consists of two classes, with the medal of the first class made of gold , the second class made of silver .

Order decoration

The decoration is a red enamelled cross, which is enclosed by a ring. The inscription in Cyrillic on the ring: Russian За попеченіе о раненыхъ и больныхъ воинах For the care of wounded and sick warriors .

Ribbon and way of wearing

The ribbon is scarlet and resembles that of the Alexander Nevsky Order . The medal was worn on the ribbon bow on the left breast.

Others

Order bearers had the right to include the decoration in their own coat of arms or seal and to use it.

The award was not returnable after the death of the borrower.
