Order for Military Merit

The Order for Military Merit ( Russian Орден "За военные заслуги" ) is a state award of Russia . It was donated on March 2, 1994 by Ukas No. 442 of the President of the Russian Federation .

According to the statute, the award is given to members of the military who distinguish themselves through “exemplary performance of their military duties in ensuring the defense capability of the Russian Federation, courage and bravery”. It is assumed that the military service duties have been conscientiously performed over at least 20 years (over 10 years up to 2010). Since 2011, the order can also be awarded to employees of the Military-Industrial Complex of the Russian Federation, scientific research institutions and state organs for merits in the drafting, production or commissioning of modern military technology and equipment, developing military science or strengthening the country's defense capability. Foreign military members of allied states can also be honored.

Description of the order

The silver enamelled medal shows in its center the relief-like representation of the coat of arms of the Russian Federation , surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves and oak leaves and the relief-like lettering "ЗА ВОЕННЫЕ ЗАСЛУГИ" (German "For military merits"). The order represents an octagonal star, the center of which is crossed by a pentagon forming, diagonal rays. The rays are enameled in the colors of the flag of Russia . The plaque of honor has a diameter of 40 mm. The serial number of the order is stamped on the back.

On the blue-colored, 24 mm wide ribbon, 5 mm wide, red stripes run, which are framed by 2 mm wide, white stripes.

The award is worn on the left side of the chest and, if available, after the medal of bravery . On special occasions and for daily use, the ribbon buckle of the Order for Military Merit is also attached after the ribbon buckle of the Order of Valor. On civilian clothes, the ribbon is worn as a rosette on the left side of the chest.
