List of Russian orders and decorations

The range of Russian orders and decorations is diverse. Many awards from the Tsarist Empire were banned in the Soviet Union after the October Revolution in 1917 , but were reintroduced in 1991 with the establishment of the Russian Federation .

The Russian President awards this medal to people who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary bravery in the tasks assigned to them or other heroic deeds in the service of the state. So far, the award has been given around 750 times (of which to 340 people posthumously ), mainly to cosmonauts and soldiers who fought in the Chechen war. But also artists, politicians, athletes and personalities from business.
