Order of Merit at Sea

The Order for Merit at Sea ( Russian Орден "За морские заслуги" ) is a state award of Russia . It was donated on February 27, 2002 by Ukas No. 245 of the President of the Russian Federation .

Statute

According to the statute, the award is given to citizens who have achieved merits in the following areas:

  • Exploration of the world's oceans in the interests of the country's defense capabilities and securing its socio-economic development
  • Elaboration and introduction of the latest technology and equipment for the Russian Navy
  • Preservation, expansion, research and use of the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation in the oceans
  • Fight against piracy and poaching on the world's oceans in the ecological and economic interests of Russia
  • Elaboration, production organization, construction and effective operation of modern high technology in the Russian merchant fleet
  • Masterfully organized and carried out military maneuvers and exercises, in the course of which all tasks were fulfilled

The awardees must have carried out their activity or service conscientiously for at least 20 years and already hold medals or honorary titles from the Russian Federation. The Order for Merit at Sea can also be awarded to foreigners.

Description of the order

The silver enameled order in the form of a cross has diamond-shaped ends with radially pronounced edges. Crossed anchors are placed in the middle. A medallion in the center with the relief-like representation of the coat of arms of the Russian Federation is framed by a blue enameled ring with applied laurel branches and the relief-like lettering "ЗА МОРСКИЕ ЗАСЛУГИ" (German "For Merit to the Sea"). The distance between the ends of the cross is 40 mm. The medallion has a diameter of 16 mm. The serial number of the order is stamped on the back.

On the white, 24 mm wide ribbon, three 2 mm wide blue stripes run 3 mm apart. The 8 mm high strap buckle is also 24 mm wide.

The award is worn on the left side of the chest and, if available, after the Order for Military Merit . On special occasions and for daily use, the ribbon buckle of the Order for Merit at Sea is also attached after the ribbon buckle of the Order for Military Merit. On civilian clothes, the ribbon is worn as a rosette on the left side of the chest.
