Oreophrynella macconnelli is a South American species of toad from the genus Oreophrynella .

description

The body is 22 millimeters long. The top of the body is colored olive brown and has a light marbling. On the sides, from the eye to the soft point, and on the thighs, there is a series of small yellowish spots. The upper lip is yellowish. There are two dark brown bandages under the eyes. The underside of the body is whitish. There are small, smooth, slightly protruding warts on the top, and flat grains on the bottom. The front head protrudes strongly. The interorbital space is wider than an upper eyelid. The first toe is much longer than the second toe and as long as the fourth toe. The first and second toes and the fourth and fifth toes are connected by skin. The two pairs of toes are opposable. The third toe is exposed between these toes. The sub-articular cusps and metatarsal cusps are indistinct . The tarsometatarsal joint extends to the eye when the hind leg is in front of the body.

Occurrence

Oreophrynella macconnelli occurs at the foot of the Roraima-Tepui on the border of Guyana and Venezuela at an altitude of 1060 meters above sea level. The species inhabits tropical humid submontane forests. Nothing is known about reproduction, but it is believed that a direct development takes place without the tadpole stage.

Danger

The IUCN lists Oreophrynella macconnelli as endangered (Vulnerable) because the species is only known from a single location. The stock is considered stable.
