Orgame
Orgame (Greek Όργάμη; Latin Argamum ) is an ancient fortress in Dobruja in the Danube Delta in the area of Jurilovca municipality , Tulcea county , Romania .
Orgame comes into being in the late sixth century BC. Mentioned by Hekataios of Miletus as a daughter city of Histria. The name Argamum is found on an inscription around AD 100. Excavations began between 1926 and 1932 and resumed in 1965. They confirmed the existence of a Greek settlement, chronologically analogous to Histria .
Six kilometers from the fishing village of Jurilovca, which is predominantly inhabited by Lipovans , on the high and steep bank of Lake Razim are the partially uncovered and restored ruins of the Greco-Roman fortress Argamum. Today a city gate, a fortress wall, streets, early Christian basilicas and earth walls can be seen.
