history
In 1975, the government of the Canadian province of Ontario established Ontario Bus and Truck , which was based in Mississauga and produced buses for the provincial transport companies. In 1981 the subsidiary Bus Industries of America was founded in Oriskany in the US state of New York .
With the acquisition by Western Star Trucks in 1995, the companies were merged and renamed Orion Bus Industries . The name Orion followed by a consecutive Roman numeral has been used as a model name for all buses since 1977, including the Orion III, a renamed Ikarus 286 .
In 2012, Daimler announced that it would close the plant and discontinue the Orion brand due to the shrinking American bus market. Orion buses have not been built since 2013.
