Orlin Levance Norris (born October 4, 1965 in Lubbock , Texas ) is a former American professional boxer . He boxed in the heavyweight and cruiserweight classes . November 6, 1993 to July 22, 1995, he was WBA world champion in the cruiserweight division .

Career

Norris began his boxer career in the heavyweight division and switched to the professional camp in 1986. In 1988 he was North American Champion of the NABF ( North American Boxing Federation ). He later changed weight classes and boxed cruiserweight . After he became North American champion here in 1993, he had the right to box for the vacant WBA world title. He won this title by defeating Marcelo Victor Figueroa on November 6, 1993 and was able to successfully defend it in 5 more fights. He lost his title in London by a knockout loss in the 8th round to Nate Miller . Later Norris rose again to the heavyweight division. He lost an elimination match for the challenge of then world champion Evander Holyfield against Henry Akinwande . In further battles he was defeated u. a. also Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko .
