The Ornua Co-operative Limited (2015: Irish Dairy Board , Irish Aboard Bainne ) in Dublin is the marketing organization of Irish dairy industry.

history

Ornua was founded in 1961 as the Irish Dairy Board to market dairy products abroad on behalf of its partners, the Irish dairy farmers and dairies. There are now exports to over 70 countries and Ornua is the largest exporter of the Irish food industry.

The IDB has created the Kerrygold brand as a key marketing tool , under which Irish dairy products are sold internationally. The pioneer was Kerrygold butter.

Ornua Co-operative has set up its own subsidiaries to sell its products, which not only sell butter but also cheese:

The company is wholly owned by Irish Ornua Co-operative Limited, Dublin, a co-operative company in which around 14,000 Irish farmers hold shares.

Kerrygold butter has been sold in Germany since 1973. Gold foil packaging quickly developed as a trademark and was supported by television advertising from the start. Sales of now over 50,000 tons required the new building at the Neukirchen-Vluyn location, which was built in 2007 on the greenfield according to the most modern criteria. The butter to be processed from Ireland is delivered frozen in 25 kg blocks, checked and temporarily stored in the cold store. The butter is then kneaded, mixed with ingredients if necessary (e.g. herb butter) and then packaged in standard packaging.

The company is certified annually in accordance with IFS / BRC / ISO 50001 and the ZNU standard "Sustainable Management Food" by TÜV Rheinland Cert.

Brands

Ornua Germany only sells Ornua products from the Kerrygold brand. The brand has been available on the German market since 1973.

The origin of the brand is Ireland. About two thirds of the area of ​​Ireland is agricultural land - 80% of that is pasture. Mild climate and frequent rainfall favor the lush grass growth, which is why Ireland is also called the green island .

In addition to butter and butter specialties, Kerrygold now also offers mixed fats (butter with rapeseed oil), various types of cheese and fruit yoghurt. In addition, portions of butter and cheese items are available for bulk consumers.

Key figures

Today “Kerrygold Original Irish Butter” is at the top of all butter brands offered in Germany in terms of popularity and consumption and is the undisputed market leader in the German butter market with a market share of over 15%. With the sale of around 50,000 tons of butter and cheese under the Kerrygold brand in 2014, Ornua Deutschland GmbH is one of the largest marketers of butter in Germany. Ornua Germany employs around 135 people.
