Orodes II
Orodes II ( called Hyrodes on his coins ) was a King of the Parthian Empire , who lived from 57 BC. Until 38 BC Ruled. He and his brother Mithridates IV had a common father Phraates III. let him kill and after his death fought with his brother about the rule in Parthia, which he finally from 55 BC. BC also attained.
Orodes made Armenia a Parthian vassal state . His general Surenas inflicted one of the most devastating defeats in Roman history on the Romans when he defeated the four times superior army of Crassus in the battle of Carrhae . Orodes himself was leading a campaign against Armenia at the time, which had just fallen back to the Romans. As a result of the successful campaign of Orodes, Armenia had to cede large areas in the eastern part of the country to the Parthian Empire. Orodes tried to stir up rebellions against Rome and was successful in Phenicia and Asia Minor . His son Pakoros broke in 40 BC. With a small army in Judea . Orodes died in 38 BC. He was murdered by his son Phraates . His sister and wife Teleonike is known from cuneiform texts. His successor was his son Phraates IV.
