The Orquesta del Sol is a Japanese salsa band .

Career

The Orquesta del Sol was founded as the first Japanese salsa group in 1978 by Masahito "Pecker" Hashida. In 1979 Ken Morimura joined the band as musical director and produced several songs, some in Japanese. Her first album was Rainbow Love in 1981. The Orquesta del Sol appeared for a long time in Tokyo clubs such as “Pit Inn” and “Crocodile” and shaped Latin American music in Japan . They pioneered bands like Orquesta de la Luz and Chica Boom. After their debut, the group performed with international stars such as José Alberto y su Orquesta, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico , Andy Montañez , Adalberto Santiago, Yumuri y sus Hermanos, Pello el Afrokan, NG la Banda, Mongo Santamaría , Armando Peraza, Orestes Vilato and others on. For their third album "Del Sol" they were accompanied by the Cuban conga player Tata Guines. In 1995 the band performed at the 35th Anniversary Event for Sister City Relationship between New York City and Tokyo at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York City and received standing ovations. In 1998 the song "The Fight !!" was the official title of the Japanese national team at the FIFA World Cup in France.
