José Alberto

José Alberto (born December 22, 1958 in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic ), actually José Alberto Justiniano , also known as " El Canario " (Spanish for the canary) because of his talent for singing , is a Dominican salsa musician .

Career

José Alberto was born in 1958 in the Villa Consuelo neighborhood in Santo Domingo. At the age of seven he moved with his family to Puerto Rico , where he sang at the Las Antillas Military Academy. In the 1970s he moved to New York and had engagements with numerous orchestras there. In October 1977 he reached international attention as the band leader of the group Típica 73. In 1983 José Alberto founded his own band and became famous in the salsa scene after the release of the album Noches calientes in 1984. Dance with Me , released in 1991, pioneered the Salsa Romántica style of music with hits like Sueño contigo . José Alberto has sung in concerts in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Peru , Venezuela , Panama and Ecuador . On May 24, 2008, José Alberto celebrated 30 years in the music industry with a major concert at the United Palace Theater on Broadway in New York. Among the guests were Oscar D'León , Ismael Miranda , Raulín Rosendo, Joe Arroyo and the music producer Ralph Mercado.
