Ortel from Zehmen

Ortel von Zehmen (historically Ortel von Czemen , * before 1383 , † after 1448 ) was electoral councilor in Brandenburg , Vogt , bailiff and court judge of the Altmark .

Life

Ortel came from the von Zehmen family . In 1416 he was a notary (scribe) at the electoral court of Friedrich I (Brandenburg) , then head of the chancellery. 1418 u. a. the possessions Gutenbaren, Ribbeck bei Zehdenick, Lietzow , Börnicke, Paren, Retzow and Schenkendorf were awarded. In 1425 Ortel was mentioned as the owner of Storkau near Tangermünde and in 1427 as a councilor. 1438 he became Vogt and bailiff of the Altmark and 1441 Hofrichter based in Tangermünde. Ortel von Zehmen had a brother Günther who was already in the margravial service before 1420. Ortel was married to Czacharia Paarens. Together they had a daughter, Ursula. Further descendants of Ortel or Günther were the sons Achim, Heinrich, Martin, Ortel and Günther.
