The Hallau local museum is located in the church courtyard of the St. Moritz village church in the municipality of Hallau in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland.

history

In 1853, the Hallau teacher, Johann Georg Pfund, was elected to the Hallau municipal archivist and founded the Hallau Historical Collection for private reasons. In an appeal in the Klettgauer Zeitung , he successfully called on the population to add items of historical value to the collection, “You would find a place of honor!” The donations included weapons, flags, coins, tools, etc.

exhibition

The exhibition is organized by subject. The "armory" is dedicated to military history . The showpiece of the weapons collection is the so-called "Genferstutzer", a gift from the riflemen of the canton of Geneva to the Hallau residents, as a tribute to the prevention of a violation of neutrality by the Germans. Numerous household and agricultural appliances are also presented. A lead typesetting machine brand Linotype is still functional. This served for a long time to print the Klettgauer Zeitung. On the upper floor of the museum there is a rococo panel , which was removed from the anteroom and bedroom on the 2nd floor during the renovation of the rectory in 1949 and brought to the Hallau local history museum. In 2012, a new exhibition about the Hallau community was set up on the same floor. There is also now a new exhibition about the early history and archeology of Hallau. Pastor Johann Conrad Leu, who worked in Hallau from 1747 to 1768, painted it in 1749. In the basement there is an exhibition on the fire brigade and one on the Hallau water and electricity company (WEH).
