The Hinwil local museum is a memorial institution in Hinwil in the Zurich Oberland . It is located in a flarz and timber house from the 18th century with three outbuildings. The largely original rooms of the house with kitchen, living room and bedroom and a comprehensive collection of everyday things as well as objects from the field of home work and trade document everyday life in Hinwil and the interplay of house, agriculture and handicrafts in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The main building of the Hinwil local museum is a multi-part terraced house, the oldest part of which was built around 1718, with a long row of windows at the front and the drop shutters typical of home work . This ancillary trade is presented in the weaving cellar under the parlor. In addition to the living rooms, which show the life of earlier generations, the exhibition rooms are dedicated to individual topics, for example folklore , the history of Hinwil or weapons and uniforms. A special feature is the house organ built by a farmer in 1856 . In the barn, tools related to agriculture and handicrafts around 1900 are shown. In the “Turpenschopf”, peat extraction in the Hinwiler Ried is presented. The syringe house houses fire extinguishers from 1800 to the present.

An extensive local history has been kept since 1924, and the library contains a collection on Hinwil and the Zurich Oberland. Annually changing special exhibitions are dedicated to topics of the region.
