Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller

Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller (born June 18, 1952 in Gevelsberg ) is a German educationalist . From 1999 to 2017 she was director of the Pestalozzi-Fröbel-Haus in Berlin. Since 2000 Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller has played a leading role in the development of the Berlin model of the educational concept Early Excellence .

Career

Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller was the daughter of a mechanical engineer and a manageress born. She completed a teaching degree with a focus on art education at the University of Dortmund and then worked from 1977 to 1980 as a teacher at a secondary school in Witten. At the same time, she obtained a degree in education from the University of Dortmund. From 1980 to 1983 she was a research assistant to Rita Süssmuth at the chair for comparative educational sciences at the University of Dortmund and a research assistant at the Institute for Social Pedagogy.

From 1983 to 1991 she headed the family department at the research institute “Woman and Society” in Hanover under the direction of Rita Süssmuth . This included u. a. the scientific management of accompanying research in the field of parent self-help and family centers, research on the living situation of young mothers and their children as well as on the migration of women.

In 1986 Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller received her doctorate in Dortmund on the subject of women's spaces and female identity - on socio-educational work with migrant women . From 1987 to 1990 she had a teaching position at the Hildesheim University of Applied Sciences. From 1991 to 1998 she was head of the Office for Social Services East and head of the youth welfare office in Bremen. She got involved a. a. for the establishment of German-Italian exchange projects for socio-educational specialists, for the coordination of the establishment of a youth welfare station in a district of Bremen, and she led the pilot project "Sexual violence against children and young people - development of a networking model for professional assistance in the youth welfare office".

In 1995 she completed part-time training for managers and members of the higher administrative service at the University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. In 1998/99 she worked in the comparison ring of the large city youth welfare offices and the KGST in the development of key figures for the control of assistance for upbringing.

From 1999 to 2017 Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller was the director of the Pestalozzi-Fröbel-Haus Berlin , a provider of psychosocial and educational institutions for child and youth welfare as well as training centers for educators.

From 2000 to 2004 Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller was a member of an international research group to develop comparative standards for integrative institutions in early childhood education.

In 2009 she was awarded an honorary professorship by the University of Halle-Wittenberg . One of her focal points is ethnographic research. In cooperation with Bina E. Mohn, the series Camera-Ethnographic Studies of the Pestalozzi-Froebel House was created .

Developing Early Excellence

In 2000, the “Early Excellence Concept” was introduced in the Pestalozzi-Fröbel-Haus under the leadership of Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller and has been continuously developed since then. At the beginning, the PFH was inspired by experiences from a cooperation with the English “Pen Green Center” in Corby , England . Financial support comes from the Heinz and Heide Dürr Foundation to this day . Early Excellence is primarily about recognizing the individual abilities and strengths of a child and promoting them with the involvement of the parents. In addition, early excellence institutions (such as day care centers, schools, family centers and other institutions that deal with children and young people) open up to the outside world and network with cooperation partners in the district.

From 2001 to 2007 Hebenstreit-Müller was a member of the board of the Pestalozzi-Froebel Association. She is a member of the European research association EECERA (European Early Childhood Education Research Association). Sabine Hebenstreit-Müller was married to Burkhard Müller (1939–2013), professor of social education at the University of Hildesheim, and has a daughter, a stepson and four grandchildren.
