history

The Rautheimer Friedhof was initially located on the site next to the St. Aegidien Church since 1158 . In 1870 a new cemetery was created west of the church grounds. Until 1935 this was roughly at the level of the later “Paxmannstrasse”. Superintendent Ramke, who held the office in Rautheim, made another application in 1902 for a new cemetery to be built or for an extension to the west. In 1908 the cemetery was therefore laid out near the street "Lindentor" and received a cemetery hall. This was replaced in 1966 by a new building ("Am Rautheimer Holze", disused K 43).

cenotaph

A sandstone memorial was erected for the fallen of the two world wars, the top of which is decorated with a stone steel helmet on an oak wreath. It was inaugurated on June 15, 1921 to commemorate the 32 dead of World War I , and on October 21, it was supplemented by two side panels with the 47 names of the dead from World War II .

Burials

Earth and urn burials as well as "partially anonymous burials" can be carried out in the cemetery. For this purpose, a community facility with a central memorial was set up in which the names of the deceased are entered. The cemetery administration takes care of this community facility. Among the graves there are also three war graves, which have a permanent right of rest according to the Graves Act .
