Ortwin Peithmann

Ortwin Peithmann (born June 4, 1946 in Vlothoer district Valdorf ) is a German engineer for spatial planning . Most recently, he was professor of spatial planning at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg .

Life

Ortwin Peithmann studied spatial planning at the University of Dortmund from 1969 to 1974 . After four years as a research assistant in the regional planning department of the spatial planning department of the University of Dortmund, he moved to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior in 1978 (at that time the highest regional planning authority, areas of responsibility: statistics, spatial analysis, regional planning report, IT use in regional planning). In 1986 Peithmann moved to the Ministry of the Environment, which was founded in the same year (tasks: fundamental questions, voluntary ecological year , agriculture, transport).

From 1990 to 1994 he accepted a teaching position for spatial planning and regional planning in the subject of geography at the University of Göttingen . In the winter semester 1993/1994 he took over a professorship at the University of Vechta , where he was appointed professor for the subject 'spatial planning' in 1995. At that time, his range of courses was aimed at students studying 'Environmental Monitoring' and 'Social Sciences', and from 1996 also 'Environmental Sciences'. Peithmann was head of the 'Spatial Planning / Regional Sciences' department at the 'Institute for Environmental Sciences'.

From 2002 to 2004 Peithmann was President of the University of Vechta (today "University of Vechta"). During his activity, the preservation of the university was ensured and a restructuring of the teaching and research focus of the university was decided.

In 2003, the state of Lower Saxony decided to relocate environmental sciences to another university in Lower Saxony. The department 'Spatial Planning / Regional Sciences' was relocated to the University of Oldenburg in the winter semester 2005/2006. Until his retirement in 2011, Peithmann formed the 'Spatial Planning Working Group' at the 'Institute for Biology and Environmental Sciences'.

He has been a member of the "Center for Sustainable Spatial Development in Oldenburg (ZENARiO)" since November 2009.
