Oscar Pino Hinds (born October 26, 1993 in Havana ) is a Cuban wrestler . In 2019 he became vice world champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 130 kg body weight.
Career
Oscar Pino Hinds began wrestling as a teenager in 2004. He belongs to the sports club Cerro Pelado Havana and was or is mainly trained by Raul Trujillo. He studied at the University of Physical Culture and Sports Science "Manuel Fajardo". The 1.96 meter tall athlete weighs approx. 130 kg and was only active in the Greco-Roman style until 2018, and in free style since 2019.
He appeared on the international wrestling mat for the first time in 2015 when he was the winner of the Granma Cup in Havana in the weight class up to 130 kg. In February 2016 he won the Pan American Championship in Frisco / USA in the same weight class. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Mijaín López Núñez represented the Cuban colors in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 130 kg.
The three-time Olympic champion Mijaín López Núñez took a break after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, so that Oscar Pino Hinds was able to compete in many international championships for Cuba from 2017. In May 2018 he won the Pan American Games in Lauro de Freitas (Brazil). In the same year he was in Paris from the World Cup in Greco-Roman style at the start. He lost there after winning three fights only in the semifinals against Rıza Kayaalp from Turkey and then secured a bronze medal with a victory over Kiril Grischenko, Belarus.
In 2018 Oscar Pino Hinds won the Central American & Caribbean Games in Havana and the Pan American Championship in Lima, where he won the final against the strong American Robert Smith. At the 2018 World Cup in Budapest, he first defeated Swiadi Pataridze from Georgia, but lost in his next fight against the Russian Sergei Semjonow, who competed in outstanding form at this World Cup . Since this reached the final, Oscar Pino Hinds was able to continue in the consolation round, in which he won a bronze medal with victories over Alexander Tschernezki, Ukraine and ex-world champion Heiki Nabi from Estonia.
In March 2019 Oscar Pino Hinds competed for the first time in an international free style competition at the Team World Cup in Yakutsk. He lost there in his first fight against Selimchan Chisrijew, Russia, but then triumphed over Abdullah Omac, Turkey, Katsutoshi Kanazawa, Japan and Chuderbulga Dorjchand, Mongolia. The Cuban team took 5th place in Yakutsk. He also started in the free style at the Pan-American Championship in Buenos Aires. He lost there in the semifinals against the American Nick Gwiazdowski and then won a bronze medal by defeating Eduardo Garcia Betanzos from Mexico. At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019, Mijain Lopez Nunez started in Greco-Roman style and Oscar Pino Hinds in free style. In the final he met Nick Gwiazdowski again, to whom he lost again. At the 2019 World Cup in Nur-Sultan, Oscar Pino Hinds started again in the Greco-Roman style. He reached the final in Nur-Sultan, where he lost on points against Riza Kayaalp from Turkey. He became vice world champion.
In March 2020 Oscar Pino Hinds started again in the free style at the Pan American Championship in Ottawa, which obviously doesn't suit him as well as the Greco-Roman style. He won in Ottawa first over Charles Zachary Merrill from Puerto Rico, but then lost to both Bob Nelson from the United States and Amarveer Dhesi from Canada. In the battle for the bronze medal, he then defeated Brandon Eloin Anguiano Flores from Mexico.
